Vern Kaspick of Esterhazy passed away on May 22nd, 2026 at Saint Anthony’s Hospital at the age of 96 years.
Vern was born on January 10th, 1930 on a farm Northwest of Eden, Manitoba to Tony and Mary Kaspick. He went to school until he was 17 but started his first job threshing at the age of 14. He worked for a farmer, in an implement factory, and as a transport driver in Winnipeg. From 1950-55 Vern worked for Manitoba Hydro leading a crew of men setting power poles from Swan River to the U.S.A. border. Vern found his calling with Sask Power in 1955, working as a Journeyman lineman in charge of operation and maintenance crews in Moosomin. While in Moosomin he married his wife Doreen in 1958. In 1961 they moved to Esterhazy and raised four beautiful children. By the time he retired in 1990, he had worked as the Charge District Operator and Directory of Operations - serving an incredible 35 years with Sask Power.
He was predeceased by his parents (Tony and Mary Kaspick), brothers (Donald, Alec, Gordon), sisters (Agnes, Jean), in-laws (Edward and Margret Gork), daughter-in-law (Shelley), granddaughter (Kimberly Nelson) and brother and sister-in-law (Wayne and Gladys). Left to mourn are his wife Doreen, sons, Kevin (Shalom), Brian (Kathy), Jeff, daughter Norma Shepard (Glenn), sister (Louise Mosponchuk), 6 grandchildren - Arielle (Ryan), Kelsey (Anthony), Kaitlyn, Hailey (Kate), Carson, Richard (Chelsea) and 7 great grandchildren - Zenovia, Fayelynn, Cohen, Ryland, Jasmine, Damien, Ryder.
Vern loved golfing, curling, gardening, playing pool and spending time with his family. He participated in countless golf tournaments, especially here at the Esterhazy club. His gardening skills were prolific, with an expansive yard that fed this family long through the winter months. Anyone who met him running around town in his beloved red Chevy truck was touched by his quiet but strong presence and incredible kindness.
