Tom Arthur Williams was born August 1, 1964 in Tabor, Alberta where he was raised. After high school graduation he attended Lethbridge University on a full scholarship for his writing skills. He joined the army on a whim and attended bootcamp at Petawawa Army Base in 1984 until he was honorably discharged.
On June 4, 2000 he met Bonnie Heikkila in Lethbridge, Alberta. He remained by her side, proposing two weeks later on June 18, 2000.
Tom and Bonnie lived an unconventional life travelling, living and working while raising children throughout Canada, in Alberta, British Columbia, Saskatchewan and Quebec. Tom’s career in the oil field industry spanned 40 years, working his way up from derrick to directional driller and then consulting until the oil sector industry crash of 2007-2008. He took a year off on parental leave during the birth of each child Bonnie and he had together. Tom loved taking pictures of his children and enjoyed nature walks, children’s parks, camping, meeting new people, travelling and baseball, particularly his favorite team, the Toronto Blue Jays.
The highlight of his travels found him in Hull and Gatineau, Quebec where he embraced the French culture and continued to work in various construction ventures.
The highlight of his casual retirement involved raising his youngest daughter, Ehva Williams. They enjoyed watching movies, taking pictures of her as she grew throughout her last nine years. He particularly enjoyed reading and doing math homework with Ehva.
Tom is survived by his life partner, Bonnie Heikkila of 25 years as well as their six children, Ella, Elias, Everest, Elia, Emarie, Ehva of Gerald, Saskatchewan; former wife, Debbie Duncan and children Jaylene and Jared Williams of Lethbridge, Alberta; father Art Williams; and sisters Angela, Cheryl, Cory, Kyla Williams.
He is predeceased by his and Bonnie’s son Elijah Williams.
If desired, flowers may be donated to Tom’s funeral.
