Ted Persson Obituary

Ted was born on November 24, 1955 in Esterhazy, SK to parents Loyd and Mavis (Moller) Persson. He grew up on the Persson family farm and attended Scandia and St. Joseph’s Schools before completing his education at Esterhazy High School in 1973. He was the second oldest of four kids, a dependable son and a patient and supportive brother. Ted farmed alongside his dad and brother John for many years, and especially enjoyed looking after the cattle. He lived almost his whole life on the land he loved; how fitting that his final moments would be there too.

Ted faced various health struggles throughout his life, but he had many good years with many happy memories. His early days were spent playing with his cousins and helping out on the farm. He dabbled in minor hockey and was a standout third baseman for the Stockholm Kings. He bartended at the Stockholm Hotel, where he met Cathy Brad, the new teacher in town who became the love of his life. They were married on August 1st, 1986 and their vows were tested only three years later, when he was first diagnosed with renal failure. After receiving a kidney from his sister Diane in 1990, he went on to enjoy 17 years of great health. They traveled more freely, enjoyed life more fully, and became involved in lots of community and family activities. Ted was a founding member of the Stockholm Lion’s Club and a mainstay in the local theatre troupe, the Sow’s Belly Soup Group. He also served the New Stockholm Lutheran Church, as usher, janitor, and council member. While Ted didn’t have kids of his own, he took great pride in his nieces and nephews and was a favourite uncle to them all.

Ted was an intelligent man. He was an avid reader and history buff. He was a fountain of knowledge with an incredible memory, and the resident family historian. Usually a cool-headed and logical man, he was passionate about his Maple Leafs and Blue Jays. He was a bit of a perfectionist and always made sure things were done right.

He was a brave and determined man—though many would call him stubborn. He was diagnosed again with renal failure in 2007, and fought back with grace and remarkable positivity. Recently though, that determination turned into frustration when he could no longer do the simple things he used to. He was having more bad days than good, and there is a certain relief in knowing his tired body is at rest.

On July 9, 2022, he was reunited with his beloved parents; his sister Diane and brother-in-law Darrell; his father-in-law Wally; as well as his grandparents, uncles, aunts and cousins who all went before him.

He leaves, brokenhearted, his wife of almost 36 years, Cathy; his brother John Persson (Donna) and sister Barb Persson; as well as his mother-in-law Edna Brad, brother-in-law Terry Brad, and sister-in-law Heather McAuley. He will be sorely missed by his nieces and nephews: Erik Meck; Lisa (Darrin) Gosse, Nathan and Halle; Brendon (Julie) Persson, Gus and Katrina; Breanne (Reid) Hedstrom, Clarke and Carver; and Austin Toth.

To know Ted was to love him and his passing has no doubt left sorrow in the hearts of many.

Ted’s family would like to acknowledge the staff in the Dialysis Unit at Yorkton Regional Hospital, who showed him extraordinary care and compassion over the past 15 years.

May he rest in peace, perfect peace.

Friends and family have shared their relationship to show their support.
