Bob was a talented hockey and ball athlete himself playing hockey for Stockholm and surrounding towns, he also played for Notre Dame as one of the original "hounds" and was privileged to be recruited as a player for the Detroit Red Wings - although he did not take them up on that offer and chose to pursue family and education instead. Bob wanted all children to have the opportunity and the resources to play sports through the OHL (Now known as "Sport Venture").
