Patricia Christina Bergstrom

Patricia Christina Bergstrom (née Campbell), age 88, of Tantallon, Saskatchewan, passed away peacefully on the morning of December 22, 2025, at the Esterhazy Centennial Care Home.

Born on June 8, 1937, in the RM of Spy Hill to the late James and Esther Campbell, Patricia was the second of three children. She grew up on the family farm near Tantallon, attending school at Dongola alongside her brother Jim and sister Isabella. Together, they helped tend the cows, horses, and chickens through the lean prairie years — lessons that shaped Patricia’s lifelong kindness, resilience, and generosity.

On December 18, 1954, in Tantallon, Patricia married her soulmate, John Russell Bergstrom. Together they raised six children — Penny, Patti, Reece, Kevin, Darlene, and Lonnie — first in Tantallon, then in North Vancouver, before returning to the Valley in 1962. Back home on the prairies, Patricia poured her heart into creating a warm, welcoming home filled with love, faith, and the comforting smell of something delicious baking. She was active in her church and community, known for her bountiful garden, tireless work ethic, and devotion to her growing family.

Patricia spent many years working at the Esterhazy Care Home before joining the Tantallon Post Office following an injury. Her warmth, humor, and generosity brightened every place she worked. Among her family, she was famous for her legendary potato balls, fresh bread and buns, and cherry pie bars — recipes made richer with love and memory. On the farm, she and John raised cows, horses, pigs, goats, sheep, roosters, chickens, and ducks.

A steadfast member of the Tantallon United Church for decades, Patricia’s hands were rarely still. She delighted in knitting Afghan’s, sweaters, and dishcloths; sewing moccasins, slippers, and winter coats; and quilting beautiful blankets. She enjoyed baking — especially her cinnamon buns and peanut butter cookies — and hosting Sunday suppers surrounded by family. Patricia also loved coffee around the table, playing Scrabble and cribbage, piecing puzzles, and chatting on the phone or FaceTime with loved ones. She treasured visits with her sister Isabella and her many trips to New Brunswick to visit Patti, Jerry, Sarah, and Emily, and to Alberta to spend time with Lonnie, Janine, Emma, and Nadja.  She rarely passed through North Battleford without stopping in to see her brother Jim and family.

Patricia cherished the family’s annual Blue Lakes fishing trips, where she’d enjoy a Palm Breeze rum and ginger ale among family and friends. She was a proud Lioness Club member and an enthusiastic fan of curler Kevin Martin.

Patricia is survived by her brother James (Elsie) Campbell of North Battleford; sister Isabella Percy of Tantallon; her children Penny (Arthur) Baseley of Esterhazy; Jerry Sollows of Fredericton, N.B.; Reece (Carlene) Bergstrom of Spy Hill; Charles Barkley of MacCauley; and Lonnie (Janine) Bergstrom of Bentley, A.B. She leaves behind cherished grandchildren: Estha (Brian), Anna, Sarah, Emily, Christine (Cody), Staci, Kamin (Kelsey), Esther (Ryton), Brady (Kali), Emma (Blake), and Nadja (Chris); great-grandchildren: Jessie, Carson, Madison, Garrett, Christina, Jasmin, Brooklyn, Jacob, Knox, Kyler, Harper, Aubrey, Tucker, and Bexley; and great-great-grandchildren: Drae and Mayden. She is also lovingly remembered by numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

Patricia was predeceased by her parents, James and Esther Campbell; her loving husband, John Russell; children, Patti (Sollows), Kevin and Darlene (Barkley); brother-in-law, Lloyd Percy; and her infant sister, Jean.

She resided at Maple Street Manor for a short time before moving to the Esterhazy Centennial Care Home, where she received compassionate care. The family extends heartfelt thanks to Dr. Nel, the staff of Maple Street Manor and Esterhazy Centennial Care Home, to Rachel Dansok for officiating, and to Carscadden’s Funeral Home for their care and support.

A visitation was held on December 26, 2025, at Carscadden’s Funeral Home, with a Celebration of Life to follow on April 2, 2026, at the Tantallon Community Hall and Rink. Donations in Patricia’s memory may be made to the Tantallon United Church or the Valleyview Cemetery Fund.

Patricia’s abiding love, humor, and warmth touched everyone who knew her. Her legacy of faith, family, and kindness will forever live in the hearts of those blessed to call her Grammie.
