Minnie was born 93 years ago on December 8, 1924, on the Tomsha family farm. She was raised there by her parents, Albert and Agnes Tomsha, along with her siblings: Albert, Lizzie, Annie, Louie, Agnes, Rosie, Tony, John, Mary and Frances.
Minnie married Ken Fruin on October 23, 1945. She moved with Ken to the Fruin farm where she worked alongside Ken for 60 years. Together they raised three children: Sharon, Sandra and Lorne.
Minnie worked hard on the farm, hauling grain, milking cows, raising chickens and turkeys, and planting a large garden every year. Minnie took great pride in keeping the farmyard beautiful. She loved flowers of all varieties which was evident throughout the entire yard. Every winter, she decorated the yard with a multitude of Christmas lights. Many people would drive by the farmyard and stop to see the Christmas displays.
Minnie was a homemaker. Her cooking and baking skills were greatly appreciated by one and all, especially at the many holiday gatherings and family reunions which she hosted. Minnie spent hours sewing, embroidering, knitting, crocheting and quilting during the winter months.
Minnie was the ultimate caregiver. She looked after Ken and her children. She cared for her mother and Ken’s mother when they were unable to care for themselves. Minnie was a support to her sisters in times of need. When Ken moved to the Care Home, she visited him regularly as long as her health permitted.
Minnie’s last years were spent at Sumner Place. She made many new friends and enjoyed sharing her delicious dainties with them at social gatherings.
Three short weeks after Ken’s passing, Minnie left us to join her husband of 72 years. We will miss her, but she missed him even more.
Minnie leaves to cherish her memory her children, Sharon (Gerald), Sandra (Doug) and Lorne (Beverly). Loving memories will forever be in the hearts of her grandchildren, Brenda (Rick), Cary (Jodi), Jocelyn (Dan), Janelle (Terry), Lindsay-Rae (Justin), Kristopher (Sarah), Craig (Heather), Kendra (Blair) and her 20 great grandchildren.
