Melvin (Mick) Harvey Lucas was born on November 18, 1947 to Mathew and Mildred (Lomenda) Lucas at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Esterhazy, Sk. Melvin was the third eldest of seven children. He grew up on the family farm north of Hazelcliffe and attended Kingslynn School. He later farmed and operated a feedlot with his father and brother Brian.
Mick enjoyed playing ball, curling, golf, and cross-country skiing. He had a fondness for hosting friends and family at his house with delicious home-cooked meals. In his later years, he enjoyed the fellowship with his Legion friends, and made new ones during his part-time work at the Rocanville Scissors Creek mine camps.
He enjoyed being outside and cutting grass as a pastime, and often helped his niece out with this at both her home and business. Mick also liked to put endless miles on his vehicles, driving the backroads and observing crops and the farmers working their fields. He never hesitated to lend a hand to family and friends when they needed; whether it be running errands, accompanying them on road trips, or taking solo trips to pick up goods and deliver them.
He took pride in his great niece and nephew, Brynn & Oliver, and was always surprising them with many treats and surprises. In the last six years, he established a very strong bond with the two of them, never turning down an invitation or missing a single birthday party celebration. He often shared with family how one of his favourite things to do was watch them grow and play.
Mick is pre-deceased by his parents Mathew and Mildred, and brother Brian.
He is survived by his brother Darwin (Debra) Lucas; sisters Shirley (Denis) Firkola, Donna Lucas (Ted Fischer), Gaylene (Bob) Bruce, Carol (Randy) Maga; sister-in-law Shirl Lucas, eleven nieces, one nephew and numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his Aunt Maude Bartok, many cousins and friends.
He will be sadly missed by all.
