On June 19, 2020, Martha Simle passed away at her home in the Langenburg Centennial Care Home at the age of 98 years old. She had been a happy resident there for almost 12 years.
Martha Ethel Lillian Simle was born on April 14, 1922 along with her older twin sister, Marie, on their parent’s farm outside of Dubuc, Sk. Her parents, Arne & Magdeline (nee: Matson) Simle immigrated from Norway and Sweden, respectfully, in the early 1900's. Martha was the 5th child born into the family of six children.
Due to a early farm accident, Martha was only able to complete her Grade 3 education. She remained home on the farm helping her parents and brother, Allan. After her Father and Mother passed away, she and Allan remained on the farm together until 1977 when she moved into the Morris Lodge in Bangor, Sk. She remained there until 1987 when she returned to Dubuc to become the first resident of the new Prairie Manor rental home when it was opened. She enjoyed her suite there and her neighbours, until she required more assistance and returned to the Morris Lodge. She spent many more happy years there until she fell and broke her hip. After that mishap, she required a wheelchair which lead to her move into the Langenburg Care Home on August 22, 2004. Martha was very happy there, especially after her oldest sister, Olive McAlpine joined her in 2010 and her twin sister, Marie Wilson in 2011. It was especially easy for them to keep tabs on and visit each other, as they all ended up in the West wing.
For years Martha, did a lot of embroidering on pillowcases and tea towels, with family and friends receiving these items as welcomed gifts from her. She enjoyed Old Time music and was a good dancer (mainly old-time waltzes). While on the farm with Allan, she also enjoyed watching hockey and baseball on T.V. with him. Later curling and the Sask Roughrider games were also included into her list for T.V watching. She loved playing cards and Bingo her whole life, plus she was a whiz at completing Jigsaw puzzles. She enthusiastically took part in almost all the activities that were scheduled in the homes that she lived in, for as long as she was able to.
Martha was predeceased by her father, Arne Simle, in 1950 and her mother, Maggie Simle, in 1974: her brother, Allan Simle in 1981 (63 yrs); sisters, Olive McAlpine January 2013 (97 yrs), Marie Wilson in November 2013 (91 yrs), and Ilean Densmore in December 2016 (97 yrs); nephew, Lloyd McAlpine in 1948 (5 yrs); niece, Maureen Folliott in June 1988 (35 yrs); and five brother-in-laws, William McAlpine, James Densmore, Ruben Norberg, Douglas Hughes and Bert Wilson.
Martha is survived by her youngest sister, Nina Hughes of Moose Jaw, Sk plus nine nieces and nephews and their families.
We, as Martha's remaining family, wish to Thank all the staff at the Langenburg Care Home, Morris Lodge and Home Care workers for their compassionate care and friendship towards Martha over the many years that you looked after her. She always seemed to be happy wherever she resided. Thank you.
