Marilyn was born in Esterhazy, Saskatchewan to Jim and Elsie Pilchak, the oldest of 3 children. She spent her early childhood in Stockholm until the family moved to Esterhazy.
Marilyn married Jim Petracek in 1981. They lived on their farm where together they raised their son Justin. Marilyn loved living on the farm spending time riding her horse, Murf, enjoying the new born calves, gardening, naming all the woodland animals that came into the yard and taking in every stray cat that knew her doorstep was the place to get a good meal and be nursed back to health.
Family was of the highest importance in Marilyn’s life. She loved her time with her family during their years’ operating the family catering business. She also embraced the family cattle business with the same enthusiasm. In winter, when Jim would bring a newborn calf into the basement to warm up, her only wish was that they didn’t have to go through the kitchen. But Marilyn was the first one to bottle feed those newborns.
Marilyn loved all of nature except bugs, yet spent countless days and nights on river banks fighting off flies, mosquitos and wood ticks so she could be fishing with her boys, Jim and son Justin. She made sure she attended every single concert with her boys as well, with Ozzy Osbourne one of her favourites.
Marilyn will be remembered for her kind, gentle and spiritual nature.
She is survived by her husband Jim of 44 years and son Justin.
