Lois Caroline Jean Reetz (nee McLean was born on November 12, 1932 in her parents’ home in Tantallon, Sask. She was the oldest child of Murdock and Mildred McLean (nee Donaldson). Lois grew up in the Tantallon area with frequent moves within the area. She moved to Geraldton, Ontario with her family in January 1948. It was here that she met her husband, Herbert Reetz, in January of 1949. They married in June of 1949. The three children, Douglas, Carolyn and Robert (Bob) were born in Ontario prior to the family moving to the farm in Saskatchewan. These three were forever known as the “Ontario Kids”. Once on the farm, Lois and Herb worked hard to raise these three children, working together on the farm as well as gardening, canning and pickling and they added 4 more children to the family, Thomas (Tom) 1959, Yvonne (1960) Betty, (1962) and Donna (1966). Lois always focused her life around her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and she was always fair to a fault. She often said her children were her greatest gift and she loved them all dearly.
In the 70’s, 80’, and 90’s, Lois and Herb travelled the world extensively. She always enjoyed her road trips near and far, especially going back to Ontario to see family.
She was a fantastic cook and enjoyed baking goodies for her family. Her dark, moist fruit cakes made an excellent Christmas gift to her family and they were found in the fridge already for everyone this year. In later years she took up fishing and took regular trips to her favorite fishing spots, but most of all she enjoyed her solo road trips to Texas to visit Yvonne and family.
She was in her 70’s when she took up a new challenge, that of mastering the computer and true to her stubborn nature she persisted until she had it mastered. She enjoyed being in contact with friends and family via e-mail, Skype and Facebook, downloading many pictures as well. She mastered the computer and many of any other tasks that she attempted including quilting.
She is pre-deceased by her brother, Douglas (1945), her parents, Murdock (1974) and Mildred (1998) along with sisters-in-law Pat, Loretta and Waltrout, brother-in-law Phillip, nieces Robyn, Lorraine, Christa, nephews Larry, Carmen and Norman.
She survived by her husband Herb, son Douglas (Lois) Reetz, daughter Carolyn (Allen) Babyak, son Robert (Linda) Reetz, son Thomas (Cindy) Reetz, daughter Yvonne (Edwin) Stow, daughter Elizabeth Reetz and daughter Donna (Ron) Kapchinsky along with 20 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.
