Ken’s journey on this earth began 96 years ago and it is a journey to be remembered, cherished and celebrated. He was born on June 21, 1922 on the Fruin family farm. He was raised there by his parents, Percy and Emma Fruin, along with his four siblings; William, Walter, Arthur and Mary. Ken eventually took over the family farm and built a successful cattle and grain operation.
Ken married Minnie Tomsha on October 23, 1945. Together they raised three children: Sharon, Sandra and Lorne. Last October, Ken and Minnie celebrated their 72nd Wedding Anniversary.
Ken worked hard on the farm, appreciating the good times and working through the hard times, always maintaining a positive outlook. Even though the farm consumed long hours, there was always time to enjoy family gatherings, playing cards, dances, celebrations and helping neighbors.
Ken was active in the community. He served in various positions in the Gerald Co-op, Telephone Company, Wheat Pool and the United Church. He also served on the Boards of the Redpath School and the Langenburg Care Home. Ken drove the school bus for the Potashville School Division. These were memorable years for him. He enjoyed the interactions with the children and the many friendships he made with the other bus drivers.
After 60 years of farming together, Ken and Minnie retired to Esterhazy, settling into Sumner Place where they enjoyed coffee with friends and visits from family, especially grandchildren and great-grandchildren, delighting in their diverse personalities, talents and accomplishments.
Eventually, Centennial Special Care Home became Ken’s final home. He always lit up when Minnie came to visit and always told her how beautiful she was to him.
Ken leaves to cherish his memory his wife Minnie; daughter Sharon (Gerald); daughter Sandra (Doug) and son Lorne (Beverly). Adventures on the family farm will forever be in the hearts of his grandchildren, Brenda (Rick), Cary (Jodi), Jocelyn (Dan), Janelle (Terry), Lindsay-Rae (Justin), Kristopher (Sarah), Craig (Heather), Kendra (Blair) and his 20 great-grandchildren.
