June Arlene Selkirk

Arlene Selkirk (nee Roberts) passed away January 14th, 2020 with her  family by her side.  She was 83 years old.

Arlene was born June 27, 1936 in Bangor, SK. She went to school in   Bangor and completed her grade 12 in Melville, SK.  Arlene continued her education in Saskatoon at Teacher’s College in 1954-55. Arlene started her teaching career at New Stockholm, Redpath, and Llewelyn Schools.  Arlene then came to teach in Spy Hill in 1960. This is where Arlene met her husband Bruce Selkirk and they were married in December 1961. In 1963, Arlene put teaching on hold to stay home and start a family. Arlene and Bruce had two sons: Leslie and Dale. Arlene returned to teaching in 1970 until she retired in June of 1992, after 29 and a half years of teaching.

Arlene enjoyed volunteering in the community. She was always happy to help with activities at the United Church, bingo or reading to the seniors at the manor. She was a member of the Housing Authority, the Ever Ready Club, and the museum board.  Arlene enjoyed gardening, watching game shows and sports on tv, especially curling.

Left to cherish her memory are her family, loving husband of 58 years, Bruce Selkirk, children; Leslie (Lynne) Selkirk, Dale Selkirk, grandchildren; Brittany (Ryan) McLean, Mitchell Selkirk, Melissa (Garnet) Selkirk, great grandchildren; Graisyn, Kamdyn, and Rowan McLean, brother,  Brian  (Brenda) Roberts, and many nieces and nephews who loved her dearly. Arlene was predeceased by her parents Les and Jennie Roberts.
