Josephine Moore Obituary

Josephine Moore (nee Berehula) was born October 9, 1920 to Malania and Kost Berehula in Canora, Saskatchewan.  Josephine passed away peacefully October 14, 2025 - just five days after turning 105, an astonishing feat.

Josephine was married to the love of her life Harry Moore, and settled in Esterhazy, Saskatchewan.  Josephine was a talented hairdresser who worked out of her home for over 40 years, commenting that if her kitchen walls could talk, the stories they could tell.

On August 17, 1952 their family was complete with the arrival of their beloved daughter Linda.  Josephine loved being a mother, saying letting kids get dirty and having fun was important.  Sadly, Linda passed away in a car accident in 1971. Despite the unimaginable pain of losing a child, Josephine and Harry found comfort in each other and found a path through their sorrow together.  They remained together until Harry’s death in 2013.

Despite finding herself living alone for the first time in her life, Josephine continued to enjoy everything life had to offer.  She loved visiting with friends and neighbours -all of whom knew there was no such thing as a quick stop or visit at Josephine’s house.  She continued to garden and loved taking care of her yard.

Josephine continued to support Skate Esterhazy, the club Harry had helped establish, and that continues to annually honour the Linda Moore Skater of the Year award.  She truly loved when the winner would come to her house and have a visit with her.  Numerous skaters from Esterhazy benefited from Josephine and Harry’s generosity in honor of Linda.

During the global pandemic in 2020, Josephine continued to live in the family home.  She was forever upset the Covid had “stolen” her 100th birthday celebration.  At the age of 101, and after contracting Covid for the second time, Josephine found she needed to leave her home and reside somewhere that could provide her with some additional help and care.  She moved to the Maple Street Manor, where she found some old and new friends.  She loved to watch television with her housemates, unless they were watching wrestling - she just could not understand how anyone found that to be entertaining. However, if curling was on, she could be found sitting with her friends enjoying the game. Sadly, after a fall and surgery to repair broken bones, at 103, she had to move from the Manor to a full time care facility. Josephine resided for a short time at the care facility in Kamsack, Saskatchewan, before coming back to Esterhazy Centennial Special Care Home to live out the rest of her life.  She very much wanted to see her 105th birthday and our hearts were very happy to see her make this milestone.

Josephine is predeceased by her Husband Harry, and daughter Linda.

She is survived by extended family and many special friends she made in Esterhazy over all her years.
