Joseph Patrick Matyas Obituary

With deep sadness we announce that Joseph Patrick (Pat) Matyas (age 88) of Esterhazy, Saskatchewan passed away peacefully on October 25, 2025, surrounded by love from his family.
Pat was born on March 17, 1937 in Lemberg, Saskatchewan, to Joseph and Eva (Engel) Matyas, the second of five children. In 1945, his family moved from Lemberg to the Zeneta area where he grew up on the farm and developed a lifelong love of hard work, farming and animals.
In 1956 he left the farm to look for work in the big city Regina, and there he met his sweetheart Margaret (Hanaback). They were married on June 28, 1958. Together they built a life filled with love, laughter and family. They shared an amazing 67 years of love , and took immense pride in raising their six children.
Pat worked for 16 years with Intercontinental Packers in Regina, before moving to the home farm in 1971, returning to the farm on which he was raised. They moved from a fully functioning modern home to a two-room house with no running water, but they both agreed that it was the best years of their life together, raising their children and loving life. They built their new home in 1978 and life was good. Pat never backed down from a challenge. He provided for his wife and six children throughout his lifetime, farming the land and working other jobs in the community. Coworkers, friends and family alike respected Pat for his integrity and outlandish sense of humour. He was a proud man whose work ethic was unmatched. Pat enjoyed his retirement on the farm, tending to the yard and surrounded by nature. He relished in the peace and quiet of the farm.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife of 67 years, Margaret; and his children and their families: Daughter Leanne (Keith) Ashdown, children Evan (Kailyn), Alaric; Morgan (Reed) Williams. Daughter Joanne Dashney, children Justyn (Erica), Canaan, Tatum and Maverick; Adam (Erin), Emery and Dawson; Rebecca (Patrick), Drayden,
Braxton and Quincy.
Son Darryl (Linda), daughters Alicia and Jennifer.
Son Darren (Charlotte), daughters Kayla (Louis and William); Dominika, (Marco and Alina); Sarah and Emily. Son Jeffrey (Shauna), daughters Samantha (Blake) Delyea, Cassandra (Junaid) Hussain. Daughter Lori, children Mason and Madison.
surviving are his sisters, Lillian (Bob) Hawcutt, and Marie (Larry) Wilde, sister-in-law Delores and many nieces, nephews, some very good friends, and his loving furball, Ginger.
