John (Jack) Davis Obituary

Jack was born in Esterhazy on September 9, 1943 to parents Don and Ida Davis. He grew up in Langenburg with his brothers Jim, Gary, Rick, and Kim; and sisters Shirley, Darline, and Jill.

Jack went to school in Langenburg and worked at local farms. He learned his mechanical skills at his dad’s repair shop.  After school he worked on the oil rigs.  He then went to school in Saskatoon to enter the welding trade.

In 1969 he met the love of his life, Karen.  They were married on May 9th, 1970.  They moved to Regina, where Tim was born.  Shortly after, they moved to Fernie. In 1972, Todd was born.  Between 1970 and 1973 Jack worked in the coal industry as a millwright and welder.  In 1973 the family moved to Calgary.  In 1974 Rob was born.  Jack worked out of the millwright union hall in Calgary.  On his days off, he worked for his dad at Don’s Trailer Hauling.  In 1977 the family moved to Esterhazy when Jack got a job with IMC Canada.

In the early 80’s Jack decided to get back into the construction industry again.  He worked in various locations in Saskatchewan and Manitoba.  Jack started working as Mechanical Superintendent for Fluor in the late 80’s.  He worked over 20+ years for Fluor in Fort Francis, Edmonton, Flin Flon, Red Deer, Fort Saskatchewan, Sylvan Lake, Brockville, Kingston, and Dartmouth.  He then went to work for Amec, working in Lanigan, Cigar Lake, Timmins, and Rocanville.  He then worked for South East Construction in Esterhazy until he retired, at the age of 67.

Even though Jack worked away from home, he always tried to get home on the weekends.  In the summertime, the family would move the camper to Jack’s work locations.  Once the boys graduated from high school, Karen was able to be with Jack, wherever he was working.

Jack coached hockey and ball, fixed the boys vehicles, and socialized with friends.  He was a member of the Elks Lodge and the Redeemer church council.  He was recognized by Esterhazy Minor Hockey as a builder, and his name is on a banner hanging in the rink.  Jack enjoyed telling people about his construction adventures, camping with family and friends, taking things apart and fixing them, watching western movies and reading Louis L’amour books.  Jack’s six shooter of choice was his label maker.  He had everything labeled, right down to the salt and pepper shakers. He loved his grandkids and enjoyed watching their events.

Jack was predeceased by his wife Karen; parents Don and Ida; sisters Betty Anne, Shirley and Jill.

Jack is survived by his three sons, Tim (Donnica), Todd (Shawna), Rob (Judy);  six grandchildren Dalton, McKenna, Avery, Cole, Anna, and Abby.

Friends and family have shared their relationship to show their support.
