John was born to Jack and Margaret Vanderhulst in Souris, Manitoba on August 5, 1955.
As a young man he worked at CP Railway until he became employed at the mine.
Although John did not complete high school, Mosaic sponsored him through the millwright course at Kelsey Institute where he received his Journeyman Industrial Mechanic Ticket in 1983.
He worked at IMC potash mine for 42 years, retiring in September of 2017. For the past two years John instructed in Good Spirit School Division as the Millwright instructor in Churchbridge.
John married Claudine Duchek on September 22, 1978. When he first was married and moved to Esterhazy, he was involved in organizing and participating in stock car races and demolition derbies. As his family grew and kids grew up, he became involved in minor ball and hockey.
John is survived by wife Claudine Vanderhulst (Duchek); children, Trudy, Troy his wife Colleen, Zane and his wife Kyla; his grandchildren Haven, Hunter, Zoe, and Eve; siblings, Cornell (Sandy) and Dorothy (Dot); nieces and nephews Ryan, David (Jennifer), Elisha, and Kathy; Claudine’s siblings, Ivadelle (Rudy), Brenda (Ken), Arley (Margo), Lona, Linus (Joan), Lynette (Bud), Michael (Carollyn), and Lee; as well as her many other nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
He is predeceased by his parents Jack and Margaret Vanderhulst; in-laws Henry and Helen Duchek; niece Kayla Maclean; brother-in-law, Dwight Duchek and Kelly Duchek.
There is a big hole left in our lives and those that he touched.
