It is with great sadness, the family of Joan Ninowsky announces her passing on Thursday, December 4, 2025 at the age of 79 years old.
Joan was born on January 4, 1946 in Assiniboia, Saskatchewan to Robert and Florence Farwell. She was the youngest of seven children and is pre-deceased by her parents and brother Kenneth Farwell.
Joan was raised on the family farm near Assiniboia, SK, attended school there and after graduation, moved to Canora, SK to train for her Certified Nursing Assistant Diploma. She graduated in 1965 and worked at Yorkton Regional hospital until she married and moved to Esterhazy. She had two children, Rhonda and Travis, whom she raised while working at St. Anthony’s hospital for 36 years from 1972-2008.
Joan was known as being fiercely independent and a hard worker. She kept a tidy yard and could often be seen snowblowing her own driveway or cutting grass on her riding lawnmower. She kept bountiful gardens, sharing her canning and fresh vegetables with family and friends. She was an exceptional cook and was famous for her delicious homemade soups, triple layer carrot cake, beetniks, cabbage rolls and cinnamon buns. Every Christmas the family looked forward to her large tray of assorted dainties she would bring for Christmas dinner.
Joan adored her Grandchildren and in recent years, the addition of Great-Grandchildren gave her so much joy. She would spend hours on her phone looking at pictures and watching videos of them and would remind everyone to keep sending more!
In 2008, she met Garry Jakubowski and they spent 17 years filled with love, laughter and companionship. Summers were spent in the garden and winters, ice fishing. They enjoyed dancing, playing cards with friends and spending time with their families.
Joan passed away at St. Anthony’s Hospital after a very brief but courageous battle with cancer.
She leaves to mourn her passing: her children, Rhonda (Keith) Sapara and Travis Ninowsky; her Grandchildren, Jillian (Braiden) MacDonald, Nicholas (Paige) Sapara and Connor
Ninowsky; her Great-Grandchildren, Jack and Charlie MacDonald and Kip Sapara; her special friend, Garry Jakubowski; her siblings Leonard Farwell, Marjorie Kissner, Della Pickens, Robert Farwell, and Lloyd Farwell.
Joan’s memory will be forever cherished, and she will be lovingly remembered by family and friends.
Donations in Joans memory can be made to the St. Anthony’s Hospital Foundation.
God saw you getting tired and the cure was not to be.
So he wrapped you in his loving arms and whispered, “Come with Me.”
You suffered much in silence,
Your spirit did not bend.
You faced your pain with courage
Until the very end.
You tried so hard to stay with us
Your fight was not in vain
God took you in his loving arms
And saved you from all pain.
