Jason Alexander Irvine

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Jason Irvine on April 7, 2021 at the young age of 48.

Jason was born at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Esterhazy, SK. As a young boy he lived on the family farm in the Qu’Appelle Valley before the family moved to Colonsay and Watrous, SK.  He was the second child of three for Dennis and Debbie Irvine. 

Jason grew up in Watrous, SK and attended Winston High School. After graduation, he enrolled and completed a college degree in Integrated Resource Management at the Saskatchewan Institute of Applied Science and Technology (SIAST) in Prince Albert, SK. He spent summers guiding in Northern SK, while he specialized in Fisheries and Resource Management.

Jason then followed in his Dad's footsteps to become an Interprovincial Red Seal Journeyman Welder.  He had over 25 years of welding experience and worked on projects across ON, MB, SK, AB and BC. He obtained his welding apprenticeship at the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT).

He was a proud member of Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 179.  His Union Brothers and Sisters knew him well for his humorous stories about his adventures, his many jokes and mischievousness. Jason was a very skilled welder that could strike a bead with ease using many different alloys, with expertise in metallurgy.  Jason and his Dad collaborated on many pipeline and construction projects that took them far from home but because they shared their trade, they always had each other for companionship.

Over a year ago, Jason’s passion for wildlife and the great outdoors took his family to Whitehorse, YT.  He was an avid fisherman; whether it was fly fishing off the banks; casting a line with a rod and reel; or ice fishing.  He enjoyed hunting with a rifle or compound bow while observing nature and exploring new hiking trails with his loving partner Debora, his much-loved son Tanner and his four-legged companions Nori and new puppy Tomi.

One of Jason’s greatest passions was cooking.  Whether it was making sushi, bbqing prime rib, shucking oysters or frying fish while camping, he always treated his family and friends to amazing appetizers and dinners.  Cooking came very natural to him. We often thought he should have considered becoming a Red Seal Chef.

His second love was for the Qu’Appelle Valley where the family farm is located. He spent his early childhood with his Grandpa and Grandma Irvine, many uncles, aunts and cousins on the family farm.  He enjoyed quadding, driving his truck and walking through the hills and trails.  His favorite pastime was to tour to a place called Lundy’s Ravine.  He loved moose hunting, trapping and picking cranberries.

In his earlier years he was involved with the professional rodeo, courageously riding brahma bulls.  He learned to ride horses out at his Uncle Stewie’s ranch in Kennedy, SK.

He loved with all his heart and lived life on his own terms.  Something he was known for was creating hilarious nicknames for everyone within his circle. If you had a nickname, he considered you a close friend.

Jason will be most remembered for his deep love for all his family, his sharp sense of humour, his keen thoughts on life and politics, his love for his dogs Nori and Tomi, his enjoyment for two-stepping and country music; and most of all for his caring and generous soul. 

Jason was predeceased by his beloved Popi Glen Muir and his Grandpa Doug Irvine - two people in his life he cherished and missed dearly.

Jason will be missed every day by his partner Debora Humeniuk and their son Tanner Irvine; his mother Debbie Irvine and father Dennis Irvine; his brother Chris (Jill) Irvine; his sister Tonya (Charles) Laudadio; his six nieces and nephew; his Nani Irene Muir; his Grandma Pearl Irvine; and his aunts, uncles and many cousins.

A virtual private church service was held on Friday, April 23, 2021 at Our Lady of Victory Church in Whitehorse, YT.  A Celebration of Life will be taking place in the future.  

In memory of Jason, the family will be planting a tree at Lundy’s Ravine where his ashes will be laid to rest.  A memorial bench will also be placed at Hazelcliffe Cemetery where everyone can overlook the valley in his remembrance.

If friends and family so desire, memorial tributes in Jason’s name can be made directly to Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation.
