James (Jimmy) Zich, was born February 26, 1928 in Esterhazy to Mike and Helen Zich (nee Dudek). James passed away May 1, 2018 at the Esterhazy Centennial Special Care Home with family by his side.
James was born into a farming family and soon learned the value of hard work by helping out in any way possible. In 1951 he started his own farm but sold out to go into partnership with his Dad in 1958 at the Twin Spruce Service Station, which is now the current location of the Galaxy Restaurant. Jim met the first love of his life Evelyn and were married in August 1960. James left in 1962 to try out the grocery business in Moosomin but returned to take on the Twin Spruce on his own from 1964-1976. In 1975 he built the Esterhazy Bowlarena and sold it to his son Tim in 1991 though continued to help until approximately 5 years ago.
Jimmy loved to bowl, travel and sing in the church choir. He loved being a member of the Our Lady of Victories Parish, and a life time member of the Knights of Columbus. He was also an avid gardener, loved to cook and clean (Mom loved it!)
After Evelyn passed he and long-time friend Enid Johnson enjoyed each others companionship and married in October 2014. As Jim’s legs began to give out he took up residence in the Langenburg and Esterhazy Care Homes until his passing.
James is survived by his second wife Enid Johnson, his children Debbie (Norbert Kulcsar), Tim (Jen), Danny, Randy (Tamara), Perry (Tracy). James lives on through his grandchildren Kim, Corey, Morgan, Karmen, Kyle, Carter, Taylor, Noah, Logan, Dakota, Dylan and Aubrey; and his great-grandchildren Shanley, Ashton, Cael, Cora and Claire; and his great-great grandchild Nahla. James is also survived by his sister Marian Weselak and her husband Tommy, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, his first wife of forty-nine years Evelyn (nee Lomenda) in 2010. James was also predeceased by his brother George, sister Violet and numerous in-laws.
James never lost that smile even when things got tough.
He will be missed by all.
