Henry Wagantall Obituary

It is with a mixture of sadness and joy that we announce the peaceful passing of Henry Wagantall at the age of 93 on January 19, 2024, at the Esterhazy Centennial Special Care Home. Surrounded by his family in the days leading up to his passing, Henry's departure marks the end of a life well-lived and a legacy of faith and devotion.

Henry was predeceased by his beloved wife of 58 years, Clara Elizabeth Pearl Potts Wagantall, as well as his parents, Otto Wagantall and Wilhelmina Wagantall Stanko, brothers Ernie (Myra) and John (Betty), and sister Tilley (Bill). His absence will be deeply felt by his children, Penny Yule (Ted), Rick (Denise Smith), Marty (Cathay), Cindy, and Cory, along with his 11 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren.

Born near Drumheller, Alberta, on September 10, 1930, Henry grew up in East Coulee, Alberta. His early years were spent as a dedicated coal miner for nearly two decades. Later, he moved to Esterhazy, Saskatchewan, to work at the newly opened IMC potash mine (now Mosaic), where he dedicated the remainder of his working career.

Henry's green thumb was legendary – to say he was an avid gardener would be an understatement. His love for tending to his garden became a defining aspect of his life, and friends and neighbors always knew where to find him.

Devotion to his family was the cornerstone of Henry's character. A hard worker and constant provider, his recommitment to Christ in the 80’s marked a profound transformation in his life. His journey to strengthen his faith became evident through his unwavering commitment to the Esterhazy Baptist Church. Until late 2023, he served as a dedicated member, tending gardens, ushering, greeting, and embodying the spirit of Christian fellowship.

Henry's impact extended far beyond his family and church community. His caring nature left an indelible mark on all walks of life in the community. Those whose paths crossed with Henry felt a genuine sense of compassion and kindness.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the staff of the Esterhazy Centennial Special Care Home for their compassionate care in Henry's final days. Special thanks also go to the staff of Maple Street Manor for their exemplary care over the last two years.

A celebration of Henry's life will take place on Saturday, January 27, 2024, at 2:00 pm at the Esterhazy Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations in Henry's memory to Samaritan’s Purse.

As we mourn the loss and celebrate the life of a beloved father, grandfather, and friend, we take solace in the knowledge that Henry Wagantall's legacy of faith, kindness, and hard work will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know him.

Friends and family have shared their relationship to show their support.
