Harold Swain Obituary

It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of Harold Robert Riel Swain on Sunday, February 16, 2025.

Harold was born in Saskatoon, to Harley and Elizabeth Swain on February 16, 1968. They resided in  Elstow, Saskatchewan for a short period of time before relocating to  Esterhazy, Saskatchewan. Harold attended PJ Gillen School and  Esterhazy Central  High. He  was a very outgoing, friendly, kind hearted person who befriended many people.

Harold had many jobs throughout his life, which included bartending, construction and finally the job that he loved the most, welding. Harold was a very talented welder and took great pride in his work.

In 1990, Harold decided to become an Eskimo and moved up to Inuvik, NWT, where he met the love of his life, Maureen Reierson. They moved to Saskatoon and were married on July 9, 1994 in Lanigan, Saskatchewan. Their first son, Dalton was born on March 20, 1996 in Saskatoon. They moved to Lac La Biche, AB after Maureen received her Bachelors of Social Work, where their second son Walker was born on November 6, 2001.

Harold loved being a father and a husband. He loved his boys unconditionally and  would  do  anything  for them to  make  sure  they  never went  without. Unfortunately, Harold and Maureen decided to separate, but remained best friends and raised the boys together.

He met Betty Lutz in 2006, and they had a blended family for a few years, which included Betty’s children Brock, Becky and Austin.

In October of 2014, he met Lori Slager. They lived together as a couple for a few years and decided that they would be better off as friends. Harold resided with Lori until he moved in with Mom in February of 2024.

Harold  will  be  greatly missed by all that knew him. He was  known  as the comedian of the gang and his ability to make everyone  smile and  laugh. He always had a great big hug when he saw you. He had a big smile, a big laugh and a huge personality. As his nephew Tyler said on the day they took him away, “Uncle wasn’t a small man, he had a big head, a big belly and big personality!!”

He was predeceased by his Grandparents Rose and Riel Tanner, Harry Swain, William and Mary Strulow, his godparents ,Clifford and Alice Paul, his brother Matthew Swain and step-brother Raymond Iron Eagle-Swain, his wife and best friend Maureen Reierson-Swain, his brother-in-law, Kevin Scheier & his great nephew Steven Swain.
