Gregory Kevin Mikolas was born May 20, 1964. He was adopted shortly after birth by his parents, Bernard and Germaine. Raised on the Mikolas farm near Gerald Saskatchewan, he grew up loving the land and the role of farmer.
Known as Greg to his friends and family, Greg was a rambunctious, stubborn, sweet boy with an infectious smile. He loved to sing, and his parents loved to hear it. He loved the farm life, particularly working with the horses, and was devastated when a fire took down the old barn.
As a teenager Greg liked to push the limits embracing a suitable lifestyle for his love of heavy metal and hard rock. It wasn’t long before this rocker image found him his first love, Kelly. Greg truly lived in his early 20s, having a great time with his band Caimen—especially while performing at Barn 22. After marrying on June 23, 1990, Greg and Kelly welcomed daughter Cynthia Anne on November 15, 1990, and son Tiernan Job Bernard on September 1, 1992. During this time Greg and Kelly also opened a store, Sightseer Satellite, selling TVs, car stereos, and other entertainment related electronics. Unfortunately, the marriage wasn’t meant to last, and Kelly and Greg were divorced in 1993.
After staying in Melville for a while, Greg moved to Regina to seek greater opportunities and met his second wife, Paulette, in 1996. Paulette and Greg welcomed three children together, Kayleigh Rose on April 2, 2000, Steven Gregory on April 20, 2002, and Joshua Brian on July 24, 2003. During this time Greg found employment as a website designer, and he and Paulette developed an interest in genealogy.
In 2008 an opportunity to move to a farm outside of Strasbourg came to fruition and Greg had the chance to live his dream, rescuing animals at the C.H.A.R.M. Farm.
Throughout his entire life, Greg always felt that his biological family was a missing piece of his puzzle. After initially learning the last name of his mother, Linda McKinnon, Greg was determined to find the rest of his family. In 2018 he was successful. While he was not able to meet his biological parents, he was thrilled to meet half-brother Anthony, half-sister Paula, and half-sister Laurel. Unsurprisingly this meeting was followed by some rowdy karaoke. Though he didn’t know him for long, Greg fondly referred to Anthony as his little brother.
After separating from Paulette in 2021, Greg returned to Regina. While there he developed a strong social life, spending time at Zahir’s and O’Hanlons. When he’d sing karaoke, friends would refer to him as the “Red Rocker”.
Gregory is predeceased by his parents Bernard and Germaine Mikolas, and his biological father Algeridas Karosas. Left to remember him is sister Kelli Jakubowski (Kirk) of Neepawa, daughter Cynthia Mikolas (Theo) of Edmonton, son Tiernan Mikolas (Alyssa) of Cold Lake, daughter Kayleigh Szanto (Kody) of Regina, son Steven Mikolas (Sydney) of Lumsden, son Joshua Mikolas (Teagan) of Strasbourg, and granddaughters Willow, Bentley, and Marley, as well as many other aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
