George Bittner was born September 16, 1940 on the Northwest quarter of 33-18-31 West of the 1st near Spy Hill near the family farm to Otto and Clementine (Scherloski) Bittner. He was the second oldest of four children. After completing his schooling in Spy Hill, George remained on the family farm and farmed alongside his father and brother, Oscar.
In 1973, he married Bertha Belhumeur of Welwyn, SK. They lived in the home that he built and continued the family farm until retirement. Together they have three children and eleven grandchildren; Joey (Carissa) with grandchildren, Torrie, Baylee, Jack and Eliana; Trevor (Lise) with grandchildren, Matthew, Sophia and Miranda; and Sandra (Kevin) with grandchildren, Bryn, Andrew, Daniel and James.
George enjoyed woodworking, curling, and playing chess in his younger years. After Bertha’s passing in 2009, George moved into the manor in Spy Hill. After a few more years, he moved to Sumner Place in Esterhazy, which is where he resided until his passing. He enjoyed playing cards and socializing in both manors. He very much enjoyed spending time with all of his grandchildren, sharing all of his wisdom and wit. George was a practical man, an analytical thinker, and very much respected in the community.
George was predeceased by his parents, brother Oscar, sister Marlene and wife Bertha. He is survived by one brother, Frank (Lucie) Bittner of Winnipeg, MB.
He lived a full life. He will be sadly missed, but fondly remembered by family and friends.
