Georg Richard Wilhelm Franke was born November 10, 1936 in Schreckendorf, Grafschaft Glatz, Schlesien (now Poland). After the war, Georg and his family were kicked out of their home and relocated to Leipzig, East Germany. The family was divided and his brother Kurt ended up in West Germany. Georg was always looking for an adventure, so, in his early 20’s he told his parents he was going to visit his brother in West Germany for the weekend. He took his bicycle and a backpack and never told them he wasn’t coming back. He was working at the Siemens factory in Amberg where he met Irmgard at a company party. He already had his ticket to Canada, so, after a few months of dating he asked if she would come with him and she said “yes!” Georg snuck back into East Germany to say goodbye to his family and then headed to Canada. He ended up in Rivers, Manitoba, sent for Irmgard, and they were married in Virden in 1959. Eventually, they settled in Esterhazy where Georg worked at IMC (Mosaic). He retired in 1991 after Irmgard’s sudden passing. He spent time traveling, but felt something was missing in his life. He met Lorraine Fritz and in July 1997 they were married. They spent a lot of their 25 years of marriage traveling. Sadly, cancer reared its ugly head, and, while Georg fought and won his first battle it came back with a vengeance. He never stopped fighting, but finally, he lost his battle on August 30, 2022.
Georg is predeceased by his parents Alfred and Margaretha. His first wife Irmgard, his brother Kurt and sister Irena. He leaves to mourn his wife Lorraine, son Richard, daughters Angela and Monic, his grandchildren Jason, Hilary (Jon), Mason (Camareigh), and Bailey. His great granddaughter Charlie, his sister Gretel, nephews Bernd and Christoph (Micha and Paula), step-daughter Leora (Dave), in-laws Laverne and Cliff Jendrasheske, and numerous extended family.
