Welcome to the memorial page for

Florence Pfeifer

October 1, 1923 ~ July 28, 2017 (age 93) 93 Years Old

It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Florence Pfeifer on July 28, 2017 at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Esterhazy, Saskatchewan, at the age of 93 years.  Florence Leffler was born on October 1, 1923 near Runnymede, Saskatchewan and grew up working on the family farm with her two sisters and two brothers.  At the age of 18, she got on the train to Sudbury, Ontario to join with her future husband, William Pfeifer, also from the Runnymede area, who at the time was working at the nickel mine.  They were married in 1942 and their first son, Garry was born there in 1943.  Soon after, they moved back to Runnymede to help on the farm.  Their second son, Randy was born in 1954.  Florence and William moved to Kamsack in 1996 and after health problems, William passed away in 1998.  Florence remained in Kamsack living on her own, with help from her neighbour Jean Zychkowski.  We are forever grateful for all the kindness and friendship Jean provided for Florence.  In 2014, Florence moved to Daisy Hill Manor in Esterhazy, to be closer to her family.  For full time care and companionship, she moved to Maple Street Manor.  After a short stay, health concerns required her to move to the Centennial Special Care Home in Esterhazy, where she remained until her passing.  Florence will be remembered for her hard work on the farm like picking stones off the fields, taking care of the big garden and milking the cows twice every day.  She never wanted a driver’s licence, so she walked wherever she needed to go.  She wore out the soles of many a shoe, which likely kept her mobile until the age of 92.  Summer holidays on the farm for the grandchildren included driving tractors, gardening, cutting grass and of course “painting”.  The granddaughters will remember the special tea parties held under the old evergreen tree and those wonderful wiener roasts everyone looked forward to.  One of Florence’s biggest concerns was that everyone that came to visit was hungry and people would hear her say, “come eat, eat” and she would always offer to send some food with you when you were leaving.  We all visited her as often as we could which included supplying her with much needed Thrills, Juicy Fruit and Trident gum.  In her final years, Florence spent a lot of time looking at the many albums of special family photos that were taken over the years.

Florence was predeceased by parents Clara and Edward Leffler; husband William; son Garry (Rosalind) Pfeifer; sister Alma (Alex) Fromm; sister Frieda (Fred) Pfeifer; brother Laurie (Sabina) Leffler and brother Ed Leffler.  Florence is survived by son Randy (Mavis) Pfeifer; granddaughter Jessica Graves; grandsons Chris Pfeifer and Marty (Shawna) Pfeifer; great granddaughter Ashlie Hill; great great grandson Prestyn Hill; great great granddaughters Robbie Hill and Dylan Hill; granddaughter Tracy (Myles) Hendrick; sister-in-law Evelyn Innes; and several nieces and nephews.
