Funeral Mass: Saturday August 20th, 2022 ~ 2:00 p.m. (CST)
St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Churchbridge, Saskatchewan.
Eileen McNeil was born May 17th, 1947 at St. Anthony’s Hospital, Esterhazy, Saskatchewan. She was the second of six children born to Charles and Margaret McNeil.
Eileen grew up in several towns across southeastern Saskatchewan including Tantallon, Hazel Cliffe, Bear Creek, Kennedy, Dubuc, Grayson, and Churchbridge. The family moved many times as Eileen’s father, who worked for the Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR), was transferred often within the province.
She attended school in Kennedy, Dubuc, and Grayson. When the family moved to Churchbridge, Eileen stayed home for a few years and helped her Mother and family with the housework.
As a young adult, Eileen moved to Yorkton, Saskatchewan and attended the SaskAbility’s supported employment programs while residing in a group home in the city.
In 2004, Eileen moved back to Grayson to live at Hospice St. Marie Bernard; she fit in well in this setting as it was smaller, quiet and she took great joy in making it her home. Over the years, Eileen received excellent care and companionship at the hospice from all the staff, including supervisors Marie Gelowitz and Tania Moore. At the hospice, Eileen kept busy with crafts, puzzles, word searches, group outings as well as watching her beloved Saskatchewan Roughriders play football on television.
Eileen always looked forward to her family’s many get-togethers, particularly all the festive holidays, weddings, and birthdays - especially her own birthday! If you wanted to give Eileen a treat, her favourite candy was a box of Bridge Mixture chocolates.
In the spring of 2022, after suffering a fall and injuring her shoulder and leg, Eileen was transferred to the Centennial Special Care Home in Esterhazy, Saskatchewan.
Eileen passed away on July 20th, 2022 at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Esterhazy, approximately 70 yards from the original hospital where she was born.
Eileen will be dearly missed by her family including: brothers Wally (Shirley) McNeil, Michael (Cindy) McNeil, Albert (Sharon) McNeil, sister Sheila Morash, nephews Dale (Veronica) DePape, Dean (Kami) DePape, Dave (Bonnie) DePape, Dan (Amy) McNeil, Doug (Nicole) McNeil, Terry (Tammi) Morash, Logan (Angela) Craig, nieces Dorenda (Mehdi) McNeil, Nicole (Tyson) McNeil, Amber (Perry) Naclia, as well as numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents Charles and Margaret McNeil, her sister and brother-in-law Frances and Jim DePape, brother-in-law Don Morash, niece Lori Morash, and nephews Darin DePape and Sean McNeil.
