Edna was born in 1927 to parents Hannah and Andrew, in Estevan. At a young age, her family moved to Stockholm to begin farming.
In 1948, Edna married Donald McAlpine and in 1949, they bought her grandmother’s farm. Edna and Donald had a wonderful life together for 38 years before Donald passed on.
In 1988, Edna married her neighbour and friend, Orville Paulson. They shared many passions and had 32 years of life together before Orville passed on.
Edna was a hard worker and loved farming as she worked alongside both Donald and Orville in all aspects of farming. She also drove school bus for numerous years. As busy as Edna was, she always welcomed spontaneous visits from friends or family, and quickly had an array of different foods to serve them.
Edna’s passion for music was evident as a young girl and throughout her life. She learned to play the piano by using an oil cloth that her dad had drawn out for her. At the age of 14, she joined the New Stockholm Lutheran Choir, which was well-known for their beautiful four part harmony. She also sang and played in multiple duets, especially with Orville. Edna enjoyed playing the trumpet in the CCYM band, the Stockholm Brass Band, and the piano with the Country Cousins. Edna was a dedicated church organist for over 45 years.
Edna was proud of her heritage and spoke Swedish fluently. She enjoyed participating in community events with Swedish singing and dancing. Edna was also very creative and an accomplished seamstress. She always had multiple projects on the go. She also enjoyed painting with different mediums.
Edna was an active member of the community and served on various committees. She was a dedicated member of the Ladies Aid and the Royal Canadian Legion.
Edna was always happy with a quick smile, a boisterous laugh, and lived her life with enthusiasm. She often spoke of how well blessed she was to have had 2 wonderful husbands, and good health into her later years.
Edna was predeceased by husbands; Donald and Orville, siblings: Pearl and Hughie, son-in-law; Pete, several nieces/nephews, and numerous brothers/sisters-in-law.
Edna was dearly loved and will be missed by daughters: Marilyn (John), Marley, grandchildren; Sean (Candice), Chantal, Brendan (Mel), four beautiful great-grandchildren; 2 boys and 2 girls, numerous nieces/nephews, numerous brothers/sisters-in-law, cousins and friends.
