Desmond Persicke of Esterhazy passed away on June 27, 2018 at the Esterhazy Centennial Special Care Home at the age of 70 years after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease.
Desi was raised on a mixed-farming operation between Langenburg and Gerald. He attended elementary school at Everetton School and then was bused to high school in Langenburg. He talked often of his fond memories of his youth and his friendships with “The Weinheimers” (Jim and Edgar) and his close cousins Glen and Edgar Radbourne.
After leaving school in grade 11, he studied welding in Moose Jaw. He worked in Calgary and Thompson, MB but finally settled in the Esterhazy-area at IMC in 1975. Leanne, Shannon and Kelly were raised in Gerald where Desi kept busy tending his large garden and yard. He spent many happy times hunting white tail, geese and fishing, especially with his good friend Clint Anderson.
He moved into Esterhazy in 1994 where he became an active member of St. Andrew’s United Church, the local bowling league and the Lions Club. Pat Mitchell became his companion and volunteer partner and was dedicated to his care as his disease progressed.
He is predeceased by his father Garth and mother Grace.
Surviving is his long-time companion and partner Pat Mitchell and three daughters Leanne (Scott Weaver and their children Aida and Braith) of Regina, Shannon (Dewayne Wagner and their children Reid, Cole and Beth) of Calgary and Kelly (Darryl Harvie) of Yorkton. Also surviving are his brother Keith Persicke (Joyce) of Langenburg and sister Brenda Suru (Mike) of Saskatoon.
