Dean Daku Obituary

Dean Daku, 64 years of Spy Hill, Saskatchewan passed away surrounded by his loved ones on April 22, 2022 at the Regina General Hospital.

Dean was born in Kipling, Saskatchewan on March 8, 1958, to Frank and Fern Daku.  After attending school and graduating in Kipling, Dean moved to Saskatoon and later to Edmonton for post-secondary at both SIAST and NAIT for Auto and Heavy Duty Mechanics.

Dean married his high school sweetheart Karen Kashmere in Kipling on June 14, 1980.  Dean and Karen lived in Edmonton while Dean worked for Alberta Concrete.  In 1986 they welcomed daughter Melissa and three years later in 1989 their son Kyle was born completing their family.  Shortly after the family moved to Yellowknife for two years while Dean worked at Giant Gold Mine.  In early 1992 Dean and his brother Mark decided to purchase the Spy Hill Bar, moving Karen and the kids to Spy Hill in April of that year.

During that time Dean also worked on the road in BC during the summer months until he got a job for PCS in 1995.  In 2002 Mark moved to Yorkton and Dean took over the hotel.  Dean became a Maintenance Supervisor and ran the Double D bar until he retired from PCS in 2019.

After retirement Dean spent his days working in the garage fixing something or planning his 58 Buick Special rebuild.  When he wasn’t in the garage Dean enjoyed spending time on the lake fishing or planning the next big hunt.  Dean loved to spend time with his family, especially with his grandchildren who he cherished the most.  Dean and Karen took every opportunity they could to spend time with them.  Over the 30 years that Dean owned the Double D he spent his days drinking coffee with Walter and sharing beers with his many friends and acquaintances.

Dean was predeceased by his parents Frank and Fern Daku; his sister-in-law Cathy Daku; father and mother-in-law Frank and Erma Kashmere.

Dean will be forever missed by his wife of 41 years, Karen Daku (Kashmere); his children Melissa (Nolan) Bodenheimer and Kyle (Jolene) Daku; grandchildren Graham Bodenheimer, Wyatt Bodenheimer and Sadie Daku.  Dean is survived by his brothers, Mark (Mariette) Daku, Brian Daku; sister Sharon (Rick) Girard; as well as many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and nephews.
