Carol Margaret Helmeczi

Carol was born December 19, 1940 in Esterhazy, Sk. She went to school at St. Istevan School. Carol’s family lived on the farm until the fall of 1947 when they sold their farm machinery and rented out the land for 3 years. They moved to Abbotsford, BC where they had a fruit farm of strawberries and raspberries and built a new house.

In 1950 they sold their land in BC and moved back to south of Esterhazy and continued farming. The children walked 2 miles to school to St. Istevan School, or went with horse and buggy, sleigh or van in the winter. Later they attended school in Esterhazy. In the summer they attended  catechism classes at Kaposvar and later went to youth club meetings.

After her father fell ill Carol left school early to help the family on the farm. She also spent time waitressing and working at the grocery store in town.

Carol met the love of her life at a local dance, Peter Titus Helmeczi. They got married May 1, 1962 at Our Lady of Assumption Church Kaposvar. She was a house wife taking care her family and working on the farm milking cows, raising cows, pigs, chicken, ducks, and geese. They were blessed with 6 children Donna, Donald, Darryll, Denise, Darcy & Dennis.

For many years she worked at the Plus 2, Legion, John Putko Auction, working on the Hospital Board, Treasurer for St. Anthony Hospital, Bingos at the Legion, Treasurer for the St. Istevan School, Kaposvar Historic Site, Golden Jets, and looking after her grandchildren who were her pride and joy. In her free time, you would find her in her many gardens, working in the meat shed, cooking meals, canning, and playing cards.

Carol was predeceased by her husband Peter, her father Joseph, & her mother Margaret. Brothers-in-law Bert Helmeczi, Bob Bashforth, Van Weiler and Tony Kacsmar. Sisters-in-law Rosie Kacsmar. Grandchildren Stephen Hanis & Savannea Lynn Helmeczi-Duchek.

She leaves to mourn at her passing her children, Donna (Glenn) Hanis, Donald (Marcy) Helmeczi, Darryll (Tara Johnson) Helmeczi, Denise (Kevin) Sash, Darcy (Jeff Matchett & Montana) Helmeczi, Dennis (Tracy) Helmeczi. 14 grandchildren Kimberly (Drew, Remi, Kody) Parks, Jennifer (Devon, Emmerson, Braxton) Firomski, Dallas (Shayla) Sash, Victor (Echo) Sash, Brandy (Sawyer) Sash, Eric Helmeczi, Evan (daughter-Jaelynn) Helmeczi, Haylee Johnson, Gabe Johnson, Brooke (Caleb) Bedford, Rebecca Helmeczi, Callie Helmeczi, Beau Helmeczi, & Tessa Helmeczi.

She is survived by her brother Joseph (Helen) Lippai, her sister  Rosemarie Weiler, Marian Piesinger, sister-in-law Ethel (Ted) Schmitz and families, Sandra (Marshall) Helmeczi-Bashforth-Eliuk and families, Gail Helmeczi and families, numerous nieces & nephews.
