It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Robert (Bob) Arthur Sapsford of Esterhazy, SK, on February 1, 2025, at the age of 84 years, at the Regina General Hospital.
Bob was born in Perdue, SK, and spent most of his early years in Biggar, SK. Throughout his life, Bob wore many hats: from selling insurance with the Co-operators, to owning a sporting goods store, to selling real estate. He was also involved in local politics, serving on the Coaldale Police Commission, running for Mayor in Coaldale, and participating on numerous community councils throughout his life.
An avid athlete, Bob enjoyed playing baseball, hockey, golf, curling, as well as hunting and fishing. He was known for his love of games, particularly cribbage and shuffleboard. His energy and enthusiasm for life were contagious, and he had a zest for living that drew people to him.
Bob was preceded in death by the love of his life for 29 years, his wife Katherine Rau, as well as his parents Frank and Anne Sapsford and his two brothers, Jim and Bill Sapsford. He is survived by his two children, Shirley (Stephen) and Terry (Rhonda); his two grandchildren, Christian (Erica) and Isabella (Nicholaus); and many cherished nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles.
Over the years, Bob formed a special bond with Vivian Bird (October 9, 1938 – January 6, 2017), which led to his relationship with Randy (Cheryl) Bird. This extended family became an integral part of his life, sharing countless holidays and everyday moments, building a wonderful relationship that lasted over 30 years.
In Bob’s later years, Marlene Redbourne of Esterhazy played a key role in his life. They shared seven years of laughter, dancing, and creating joyful memories together with friends in the Stockholm and Esterhazy area.
Bob was larger than life—a vibrant, active man who was loved by all who knew him. His passing has left a deep ache in the hearts of his family and loved ones. However, Bob leaves us with the words he wrote himself: “I did what I wanted to do, when I wanted. No regrets.”
