Beatrice Elaine Huber

Bea (Beatrice Howie) Huber (Mom) was born in Tantallon, Sask., October 4, 1932.  She was the 3rd oldest of the 9 children born to Cecil and Ellen Howie.  Mom grew up in Tantallon and on the Irvine farm 6 miles west of Tantallon and on the Ormiston farm just northwest of Tantallon. She attended a rural school and the Tantallon school.  When Mom was 17, she was diagnosed with tuberculosis.  She entered Fort San in 1949 and came out in 1952.  During her stay they had to remove a lower lobe of her left lung.  After Mom got out of Fort San, she spent her time housekeeping and babysitting for the Evelyn & Lou Tinnish and housekeeping for the Henderson family.  In 1954 she met the love of her life Al Huber.  After a yearlong courtship, they were married in St. Mary’s church in Regina on February 17th, 1955.  Their married life started in Regina, where their 1st child Cecil (56) was born.  Mom was a fulltime housewife and mother for the first few years of married life. Then they moved to Vancouver and Dad worked for his brother’s construction company, worked as a postman and took a correspondence course in TV repair. Paul was born in (59) while they were in Vancouver. While in Vancouver they moved multiple times as Dad and Mom got reduced rent for managing apartments (collecting rent, doing painting and renovations). 

From Vancouver they moved to Armstrong, BC where Dad started his own business, a TV and radio repair shop.  The living quarters were in the back, and Mom managed the store front and two mischievous boys while Dad was out on calls.

In 1963 they moved back to Regina, Saskatchewan and soon after their only daughter Diane (64) was born. 

In 1965 they moved to Tantallon where Dad took employment at IMC for a year, but was laid off with injury.  In 1966, Dad opened a TV and radio repair shop in Rocanville, then moving on, worked for a short time away from home at a coal mine in Grand Cache Alberta. He also managed a TV and radio repair shop in Edmonton. In 1968 Mom started work for the Spy Hill Credit Union which had opened a branch in Tantallon, the office was in the front of the building where they lived.  The concrete pad is still there today.  During this time Grandma Howie looked after Diane and Mom worked at the Credit Union and managed the home. In July 1970, Dad took up employment at Sylvite Rocanville in the instrumentation department. He retired from PCS Rocanville in 1994.  Mom retired from the Credit Union in 1998 after 30 years of service.

Mom loved to play cards, gin rummy, farmers rummy, hand and foot canasta, hearts, shelterbidge, and crib, to name a few, but one can’t recall her playing Texas Hold’em (like Dad liked to play). Mom could be counted on to whip up a batch baking powder biscuits for a snack before everyone went home. Upon moving into Daisy Hill, she continued to play cards with her neighbours, and moved to online cards with her son Cecil for the last 4 years.

Mom was an avid bowler and represented Esterhazy at district playdowns.  She also had a passion for knitting, and lovingly kept us warm with her mitts, toques, and scarves.  A favourite for everyone was the knitted dish cloths she continually supplied.

Mom (Bea) was predeceased by her loving husband Al (64 years of marriage), by her mother & father, Cecil & Nellie Howie, brothers & sisters in laws; Keith (Francis) Howie, Murton (Jeanine) Howie, sister-in-law Marylin Howie, sister Joy Sikora, brother in laws Allan Christian and Lionel Harrison, and Chelsea’s husband Ryan Lamb.

Mom was predeceased by Al’s parent’s Martin & Elizabeth Huber, his brothers and sisters in law: Adolph (Eda), Martin (Grace), Jack (Theresa), and Dan (Lillian) Huber; his sisters and brother in law: Agnes (Gabriel) Ballan, Eva (Carl) Tank, Angie (John) Stein, Maggie (Alfie) Rodenbush, and Adelaide (Casper) Zerr.  

Mom is survived by her brothers, sisters, and in-laws, Garnet Howie, Betty Harrison, Gaylene (Roy) Warner, Allan Howie & Karen Payant, and Terry (Donnette) Howie and brother-in-law Wilfred Sikora.

Mom will always be in the hearts and minds of her family: Son Cecil (Holly), son Paul, daughter Diane (Alan) Lucas; grandchildren: Tanner Huber, Joshua (Sandra) Huber, Garrett (Nicole) Huber, Cassandra  (Justin) Zimmer, Chelsea Lamb, Dustin (Baljinder) Huber, Lindsay (David) Korolek, Victoria (David) Maga, Chandra (Kevin) Hamilton, Jon (Freedom) Lucas, and 24 great grandchildren (soon to be 26), and numerous nieces & nephews.
