Welcome to the memorial page for

Alice Lucy Abdai

March 18, 1927 ~ January 9, 2018 (age 90) 90 Years Old

Alice Abdai (nee Knight), was born March 18, 1927 on the family farm      outside of Bangor, SK.  She was the third child to Ada and Henry Knight.  There she grew up with a love for animals, especially horses, and nature. She worked hard taking care of her mother and family. She always wanted to be a teacher or nurse.

Just after WW11 she met Thomas Johnson while visiting his cousin. They were married June of 1949 and began a life together. Alice always wanted a large family but that was not to be. They did have 3 boys though. Her first son, Randy passed at 1 day old. They were blessed with 2 other sons, Ron and Lee (Patrick). When the boys were just a few years old Tom was killed in a work accident.   Alice made a home for them in Bangor, where she worked at the village store and helped take care of her dad.

One way for Alice to earn a few extra dollars was to take in a border, Jeanette(Bernath) Gelowitz.  Jeanette introduced Alice to her Uncle Alex. Alex Abdai and Alice were married on September 2nd, 1967. Alex adopted the boys and they lived on the family farm 10 miles north of Esterhazy, along with his brother Rudy.

Alice always kept busy on the farm. She would plant huge gardens, had her chickens, milk cows, pigs and cattle.  She was always the one to go out and do chores and check the cattle in calving season. Along with her many chores Alice would help in the fields, cook, bake, sew and take care of the boys. She always had some kind of baking if friends stopped in for a farm repair or just to visit. Alice enjoyed knitting and making quilts during the long winters. She loved  company and was ready to visit and play cards. She had 3 special nieces that she enjoyed treating like her own daughter: Patsy, Laura and Connie.

In 1996, Alex and Alice moved into Esterhazy. She loved her big house in town. One of Alice’s most precious things to her was her Grandchildren.  She was blessed with 5 of them, Jesse, Brett, Alexander, Nicole and Thomas.  She always had time for the kids. She spent many hours taking care of them and loving every minute. If someone hurt one of them, then they hurt her as well. Alice tried her hand at bowling and senior groups, but she was more content being with family and close friends.

In 2006 Alex passed away and Alice found herself alone again. But being a strong woman, she moved into a tiny Elks unit, which she loved, and lived there until this past December. She loved her little red truck and drove it until this past November. When her health began to trouble her, she decided to move into the care home. Alice was happy that she was able to see or talk to her family the days before she passed.

Alice is preceded by her parents; husbands Tom and Alex; both brothers (Art and Harry); first born Randy; numerous sister in-laws, brother in-laws, nieces and nephews.

Alice leaves behind son Ron (Elaine), son Lee (Linda), Grandchildren: Jesse (Dawn), Brett (Tess), Alexander, Nicole (Patrick), and Thomas. Great Grandchildren: Skyler, Keely, Kaycen, and Alysha. Also brother in-laws,  sister-in-laws, nieces and nephew and their families.
