Alfred was born February 15th, 1936, to Frank and Elizabeth (Helmeczi) Farkas. He was born on the farm northwest of Stockholm. In 1944, the family moved to a farm east of Dubuc, where Alfred attended Dubuc school.
After graduation, he worked with the department of highways around North Battleford, Jackfish Lake and Glaslyn. He surveyed highway 22 through Grayson and out of Kamsack to the Manitoba border.
In 1960, he began work with Massey Ferguson in Regina as a parts person, then receiver and head shipper. He met many dealers from across the country. He worked for Massey for 32 years, retiring in 1992, when he returned to the farm and lived with his brother, Daniel.
While in Regina he was always taking night classes; mechanics, carpentry, air conditioning, welding, hydraulics, painting, music lessons and ballroom dancing. He loved to curl and play baseball. Music was very important to Alfred. He played the violin, loved to whistle songs and yodel. Gardening and flowers were also of great interest and a big part of Alfred’s life.
Alfred spent an enormous amount of time with his nieces and nephews, Monica, Lisa, Barbie, Amanda, Darwin, Lynn, Wayne, Don and Linda. Often on his way from Regina, he would stop in Neudorf. Wayne, Don and Linda spent many weekends at the farm with him. These children were his pride and joy.
Alfred became a resident of the Pioneer Lodge Care Home in Ituna in 2004. He often played his violin there with Daniel (Ellie). The staff loved Alfred’s cheerfulness and humour. Linda often flew home or drove from Calgary just to visit him.
Alfred was predeceased by his parents, brothers Zoltan, Robert and Edward, brother-in-law Don Morgan as well as many aunts and uncles.
Left to mourn his passing and cherish his memory are his sister Christina Morgan, brothers Daniel (Ellie) and Frank, nephews Wayne (Suzanne) and family. Don and grandnephew Will, Linda (Grant), sister-in-law Dorothy, Darwin (Rachel), Lynn (Shane), Aunt Mary Sharkey, Uncle Laddie Helmeczi, Uncle Jim Tuckor and numerous cousins.
Alfred passed away peacefully Monday, October 2, 2023.
