Agnes Miller

June 19, 1933 ~ August 24, 2023 (age 90) 90 Years Old

Obituary

No one will ever replace our mom’s humour, her tricks and joking or her laughter. Right to the end she still had her humour with the nurses. We won’t have that anymore. We will greatly miss that part of our lives now as she was the most amazing piece of our family.

Agnes was born June 19, 1933 on a farm near Rosetown, SK. She enjoyed her farming background, especially the animals. She went out to work at an early age and soon met her husband; Donald Miller. They were married July 3, 1951. Four children: Carol, Donna, Barry and Raymond soon arrived thereafter. Don made many job changes involving numerous moves. One being when they bought a small restaurant with a pool hall and bowling alley. Then again, many years later they bought another restaurant/grocery store. Mom was always a good cook especially her homemade soups. We would say she could make something out of flour and water if that was all that she had to work with.

She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She loved her family dearly. Each one of us have an unlimited number of stories and memories. She would dress up as Santa at Christmas time and her favourite witch costume at Halloween to hand out the kid’s treats.

Agnes and Don celebrated 67 years of marriage. They had a wedding like celebration for their milestone 60th Anniversary shared with many family and friends. They both loved dancing and camping which was a lifelong highlight for them. Over the years mom was involved in Ladies Lions Club, United Church Women’s Ladies, the Legion and Golden Jets Senior Club. Her biggest hobbies were crocheting, knitting, gardening, flowers, fishing, church choir, playing the accordion and organ. She would also spoil her family (and others) by baking her famous cinnamon rolls and buns.

Mom had her share of health issues; hip and knee replacements, large abdomen tumour, breast cancer, severe arthritis and achalasia. Her life wasn’t easy, but it was her humour that carried us all. At the same time, it drew in her many friendships.

Her biggest enjoyment/addition in life by far was playing cards or board games. It was her relaxation and she would end up playing for hours on end without ever tiring out….she could be obsessive even. Her motto “never too long” or “will never get too tired to play cards”. Another interesting passion was trying to win at the VLT’s and playing bingo. She didn’t do too badly at winning either… she must have had a fairly lucky horseshoe.

In the past 18 months mom’s memory started to fail ….as dementia was setting in. She realized her mind wasn’t right and was very unhappy about it but knew that she needed additional help. She moved to Morris Lodge in Bangor giving her a small but nice homey atmosphere which we all very thankful for. The family had a hall celebration for her 90th birthday recently in June. Friends, family, and relatives attended which overjoyed her fully. We believe she waited for the ‘party’ and slipped downhill after that.

Mom, you are now with your loved ones in heaven. May you now be wrapped in peacefulness and free from pain in your tired body. You were a strong lady whom we all will forever admire and be in our thoughts and hearts.

You will be sadly missed by all. We love you and grieve your loss but the memories will always be there for us.

Rest in peace and may God hold you in His tender, loving care.

Friends and family have shared their relationship to show their support.
