Marie Joan Benna

On Tuesday, December 3, 2019, Marie Benna, of Esterhazy, Saskatchewan, passed away peacefully at the Esterhazy Centennial Care home at the age of 81. 

Marie was born on March 1, 1938 on a farm in the Norquay district. She went to school in Pelly, SK. Marie married Wilfred Benna on July 9, 1956 and they celebrated their 25th Wedding Anniversary in July 1981. Marie and Wilfred raised three daughters. They moved into their new house for the Christmas of 1975.  Marie remained on the farm until 2008 when she moved into Esterhazy.  

Marie enjoyed numerous hobbies including crocheting, gardening, baking, and cooking. She was a caregiver to her friends and others in her community.    Marie also loved to travel. She visited Scotland, and traveled to Hawaii and Australia with her sister Jean. 

Marie loved to dote on her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Marie was very proud to have received her swimming certificate so she could swim with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Marie proudly drove bus for over 30 years. She would always remind her   family that she was 33 years accident free! 

Marie was predeceased by her husband Wilfred Benna, her parents, Mike and Annie Medwid, her brothers John, Russell, Mike, Mac, and Donald and her  sister Jean (Charles). She was also predeceased by her parents-in-law Steve and Susy Benna; and her brother-in-law Steve Jr. Benna. 

 Marie was survived by her friend in life Ernie Bahsler; her three daughters  Gloria Duchek (Duane), Audrey Wondrasek (Russ) and Debbie McIntyre (Ross); her three grandchildren Lana Lee Ferguson (James), Blake Duchek and Amanda McIntyre (Mike); and two great-grandchildren Surafel and Elshadai Ferguson. She was also survived by her brother Bill Medwid, her sister Elaine Himsl (Damon), her sister in-law Marlene Benna and by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
