Betty, our beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother, passed away peacefully on March 28 at the age of 94 in the Esterhazy Centennial Special Care home. She will be remembered fondly for her humble nature, kindness and the love she shared with those fortunate enough to know her.
Betty was born to John and Gladys Illingworth on September 25, 1929. She was raised on the family farm in Atwater. On September 30, 1948 she married Charles Zimmer. In 1952 they were blessed with their first daughter Della, who tragically passed away in 1959. They were blessed again with daughter Debbie in 1961 and son Rob in 1964. Her family was her pride and joy.
Mom worked as a store clerk, telephone operator and then was the post mistress in Atwater where she loved the people in the community she served. She retired from the post office after 26 years. Shortly after she than moved to Esterhazy.
Family was the cornerstone of Mom’s life, and she cherished every moment spent with her family and friends. Whether it was gathering around the kitchen table for a cup of tea or a shared meal she enjoyed the simple pleasure of being together. Her home was always filled with warmth, laughter and the aroma of freshly baked buns.
Mom took great pride in all of her grandchildren and all her great grandchildren. She always took great interest in how they were and what was going on in their lives.
Her gentle demeanor and genuine concern for others endeared her to everyone she met. She had a remarkable ability to find beauty in the world around her and to spread joy with a smile or a kind word.
Betty is survived by her children Debbie (Glenn) Rausch, Robert (Pamela) Zimmer; grandchildren Melanie (Tyler) Nagy, Amy(Shayne) Adams, Blake(Sanam) Zimmer, Brett (Nicole) Zimmer; great grandchildren Aliya, Aubree, Leighton, Eli, Ava, Mack; one Sister-in-Law Ida Duchek; numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
